The hem really does the heavy lifting on a cropped pant. Breaking between the ankle and mid calf changes the proportions of your outfit in ways a full length pant just can’t. It elongates your legs. Makes flats feel deliberate. Gives boots a reason to shine. When styled correctly, cropped pants are likely the most versatile bottoms in your closet, and we say that after giving the jeans and
skirt a fair consideration.
We’ve found that while most women own something cropped already, they don’t always feel confident wearing it beyond that one pair or that one outfit combo. That hesitation is worth talking through. Cropped pants have power because of what they’re revealing and what they imply, not because they fit within any sort of formal hierarchy. Wide leg in a high quality fabric creates an entirely different look than a narrow taper. Both of those look completely different than a cropped trouser jumped on for a sunny day in linen. They might be all referred to as ‘crop pants’ but these are vastly different garments for vastly different occasions.
That’s why we’ve been so thoughtful about what makes this edit. In cropping your pants you’re drawing more attention to the hem and waist than most places else in a women’s wardrobe. An incorrect rise or faulty hem width can look stupid in ways that are inexplicable but impossible to ignore. So we’ve whittled this down to cuts that work on real women, fabrics that don’t lose their shape by mid day, and colors/print that you’ll actually love wearing outside of Spring 2021.
We’ve also been mindful of the occasions these will be worn. There’s office worthy crops that will carry you through the week. Trousers that are relaxed enough to wear on vacation, but lived in enough to look great. And also, because pants, some dressesier styles that are ready for heels and an evening out. Each of these was treated as its own problem worth solving. Because a good cropped pant isn’t just a casual piece of your wardrobe. It isn’t just something to dress up with. It’s an anytime trouser that you can style however you need to, which is exactly why it should have its own edit instead of being lumped in with all other trousers.
