Tops
We start with tops when we get dressed. Okay, maybe not shoes first…but definitely tops. They set the tone, establish the color story, and do more subtle heavy lifting than just about anything else in your closet.
So it’s kind of crazy to us that so many clothing websites treat tops like filler products, neglecting to curate them and instead letting you scroll through hundreds of options undirected. Here, we’ve done things a little differently. We’ve compiled this edit because we know a great top can be one of the smartest purchases you’ll make for your closet, and we wanted to curate only the ones that live up to that hype. That silk blouse that looks luxe because it actually is and will look just as good next summer.
The tee that skims your body with the right weight of cotton so it floats across your skin rather than sticking to it. That linen shirt you’ll be digging for three years from now. Stop reaching for ‘something’ over these. We’ve looked for versatility, but not at the expense of exciting details.
Versatile can be a code word for boring and beige, and none of these tops fall into that category. We looked for items that could transcend occasion because they were well made and great on the body, not because they were boring offensively. The perfect striped top.
A wrap that won’t unwrap itself halfway through your day. That camisole that doesn’t disappear under sweaters but is thick enough to work on its own. Speaking of fit, we’ve been particular about that, too. Tops fail at the shoulder and the sleeve more often than not, and we took notice.
You’ll notice here that most of these pieces seem like they fit onto actual human beings, not just models. Some of these are classics. Some are bolder. Some were cheap and look expensive.
We mixed price points because having a sharp fashion sense does not equal “have a big budget to spend on clothes.” Trust us, the most stylish women know this trick already. But each piece here has been worn by us, and we will wear again.
